Tour Description

Discover more about this tour

Holland’s version of the Louvre is essential when visiting Amsterdam, and this semi-private guided tour of the Rijksmuseum will introduce visitors to the seemingly endless collection that curates Dutch history over the centuries. This 2 to 2.5 hour museum tour allows you to join no more than 8 travelers on a visit with a dashing young guide who will lead you through the museum. Your guide will provide tickets that are valid the whole day so that you can return at your leisure.

For those who aren’t familiar with Dutch culture – and who is really? – we will explore its rich and vibrant past through a selection of works from among the 8000 objects on display. We’ll discuss familiar names like Rembrandt as well as lesser known items like 17th century dollhouses. Understand the meaning behind Vermeer’s “The Milkmaid” and marvel at the expansive 19th century library. At the end of the tour, you’ll have a good overview of the museum’s collection and you may even know how to pronounce its name correctly.

Highlights Include: (if artwork is not on loan or being restored etc.)

Rembrandt masterworks

The Nightwatch

The Jewish Bride

The Syndics of the Drapers’ Guild

Vermeer’s The Milkmaid19th century library

17th century dollhouses, globes, ship replica, and Delft ceramics

Very good tour. our focus was on 17th century artists such as Vermeer and Rembrandt.

This two hour tour was great! Our tour guide was well informed and an American so language was not a barrier. She gave lots of insight to the art and artists. You don't have to wait in line and can stay in the museum after the tour to see more of the collection. They have a fun gift shop but I would skip the restaurant. Expensive, long line and food is just okay.

Loved having a private tour. Our group was only 6 people or so. The guide told us such interesting facts about paintings that gave me so much more excitement looking at paintings than I had before. I highly recommend this for anyone who wants to go but, like me, doesn't know what to look for in art.

Our guide was wonderful! She gave us a brief history of the museum which was very interesting. We looked at quite a few paintings and she pointed out the details, explained the painter's style and compared the artist to others in that time period. When the tour was over she also emailed us our tickets which allowed us to stay in the museum or come back later that same day! We would highly recommend this tour!

Very much enjoyed the museum and the private tour. We lucked out and it was only us on the tour. Had a great time with Victoria and got more from the museum than we would have on our own

Viki; our tour guide was legendary. We were in constant awe of her knowledge of the art as well as the museum itself. Request Viki if you are planning a Babylon tour. PS- she also gave us incredible recommendations for nightlife and restaurants. Live Jazz and exciting venues. Best Regards- TOM and MASON

It was a wonderful experience. There is no way we would have maximized our time in the museum without the guide.
